Hi,
I'm new wiring basics, so please bear with me (sorry)
I'm trying to wire a simple kill switch between a 12g purple and 12g yellow. There is no neutral safety, so these 2 wires have been jumped together.
I split them apart, and tried to connect them with about 12 feet 14g wire, with an interrupter switch on the 14g. and when I try to start it just clicks once and nothing.
I jump the wires like normal and it starts fine.
I would like to use the interrupter switch, but if there is a proper way, please let me know.
Thank You

Are you trying to add a hidden switch, or are you trying to use an existing switch?  If you are trying to add a hidden switch, you need a momentary push button switch, in a Normally Open configuration.

Yes I'm trying to add a hidden switch... I wanted to use an interrupt because I wanted a toggle switch far away from the ignition. Otherwise a thief could find a switch that is close...
I still am not sure why the interrupt switch did not work... too much, too thin of wire?

Did your switch have 2 or 3 terminals?  If 3, which terminals did you use?

It only had 2 terminals.
[10g]purple->[10g]yellow (factory, starts fine)
I did this:
purple-------[~12 feet of 14g]----|2 term 20amp toggle|---->yellow
and it just 'clicked' and would not let it start.

Leave the wires, twist them together at the location of the switch.  Essentially we are going to test to see if the too long of a wire run is your problem, or if it is the switch.

How about I just use a relay and wire length wont be a problem?
like this?
Ignition wire to 85
Ground to 86
Purple to 30
Yellow to 87
And then run my 2 prong switch between an Ign wire coming from the fuse box going to the relay 85.
So even when the key is on, I have to toggle the hidden switch on to get power to the relay, then the relay activates the purple to the yellow?
How's the sound? Safer way of doing it?
