Hi all!

Got a problem here. I've been fighting this alarm and Circuit City's support for years, and I give up. I'm gonna' take care of this myself now (well, now I'm asking for your help). I have a 98 Camaro SS on crack, and a Viper 800 ESP alarm. It's had a parasitic drain since day one, when they installed it. It's got a glass-break sensor, shock sensor, proximity sensor, and pager attached (all DEI products). Though I love all the features, I think it's overkill and Circuit City didn't get the hookup right. So anyways, I show a 220ma drain in the system, but it cycles, like it's paging the pager non-stop (yeah, and the pager hasn't worked right yet), and the doorlocks don't work either.

Any ideas? I've got the whole thing torn apart now, and I've looked at all the documentation I can find. It's making my head spin every time I get under the dash and look at the mess they made. I'm wanting to rip it all out and start fresh if I need to.

Heeeeeeelllllllllp....lol.98 Camaro SS Viper 800ESP problems -- posted image.

Ok,...

Nobody can help?

Alright, how about something specific: With conflicting information regarding the door locks, like this:

"Hi damacirc2000, you do not need to bypass the

BCM, only wake it up by connecting the negative door
lock output as described below and in my previous
post. If there is something in particular you do not
understand or need help with, please be specific and I'll be
glad to help.<br><br>You need two diodes and one SPDT
relay. For more information on relays and diodes, go
here:
<a rel="nofollow" href= https://www.the12volt.com/carsecurity/index.html
target=new> https://www.the12volt.com/carsecurity/index.html</a><br><br>Connect
the cathode sides of each diode to the (-) unlock
output of your alarm. Connect the anode side of one
diode to the vehicle's unlock wire. Connect the anode
side of the other diode to terminal #87a of the relay,
connect terminal #86 to ground, terminal #85 to a 12V(+)
RAP (retained accessory power) lead such as the
switched lead of the radio, and connect terminal #30 to
the (-)door pin lead."

And then there's the resonses from this forum that say to use two relays for the door locks. Which method should I use? My 800ESP has relays built in (if that matters).

Well first things first you'd be right as far as the parasitic drain goes.  Most cars the drain is less than 20 ma.  So you've definately got a relay staying on where in the system.  If i'm reading you post right you've ripped out the alarm completely.  It's a bit difficult to explain how to take care of the locks as it will take a bit of work, but if you get this in time I'll be online Sunday around 8pm est.  You can get on AIM JPTree  later.

Well, I've got it all torn apart, but not all totally disconnected. I wanted to get some input from others before I totally start fresh. I have a feeling it was wired incorrectly in the first place, so I'm sceptical of what is wired "right", so I've back-traced everything (several times). I'd like to keep all the accessories with the alarm, but if I have to unhook the pager system, then so be it. Right now I just need to figure out the door locks, and get one specific way of doing it. Like I said before, I've seen that there are two ways (one relay or two), and I just need to figure out which one will work with my application. I'd like to retain my progressive unlocking (driver's side=1 click, passenger's side=2 clicks).

And as for the AIM thing, I'm a one-"instant messenger"-man (faithful), and I stick with Yahoo. I've found that most of the others have too many "add-ons" that tend to piss me off with stuff I didn't want in the first place. So sorry JPTree,  I can't jump on that one, but if you decide you want to try Yahoo messenger, I'm nosmonster.

Thanks for the help!

By the way,... any one of the 44 people that've poked their head in and seen this post... can jump in any time (lol). 98 Camaro SS Viper 800ESP problems -- posted image.
