My Audiovox APS996a works pretty good for the most part aside from two really weird issues that I've been having that I haven't been able to figure out myself. The first issue is that while the truck (1999 F150) has been remote started and set to run for 10 minutes, it'll run just fine and then when the timer reaches 2 minutes the alarm will go off and the remote says it's from the shock sensor. The shock sensor will also get triggered sometimes at night for no apparent reason and the alarm will sound. There isn't any foul play that contributes to it going off it just seems to randomly sound.

also, i think that style of f-150 has a problem with falsing. there needs to be a relay, or a resistor on the lt. blue/white wire off of the oem keyless unit.

The alarm isn't set off when it's started, it'll start just fine and I think that the shock sensor is already bypassed when it is cranking over anyways. What happens is that when the system is armed and then remote started (with the timer set for 10 minutes) once the timer gets to the 2 minute mark the alarm goes off every time.

On the older Audiovox stuff, the shock sensor is only bypassed during the starting procedure, and 5 seconds afterward, it comes on again.
Like mikvot says, look at the various programming options in the installation manual. What you're looking for is a setting called "RS Shock", and change that to "shunt until RS clear."
But, I am pretty sure that option wasn't put into the menu until the newer APS-997. But check anyway.
As far as going off at random at night, well, shock sensors aren't 100% foolproof, and maybe it is set too high.
Out of the box, they come set to maximum.........really stupid, because it's a guaranteed customer comeback if I forget to change it!
Anyway, those shock sensors don't need to be turned very high. Turn it all the way down, and then back up, using this as a guide:
1/8: only goes off when hit by a bus
1/4: this is about the maximum that ordinary people would want
3/8-1/2: pretty sensitive; you'll hear randome warn-away chirps now and then.
maximum setting: functions as a bird-poop sensor; will false a lot.
