Hello Everyone,
I just came across this great forum in search of help. I have a 2000 Jaguar S-Type that I did a retrofit hid on and need some assistance as far as relays go. I ran wire to the battery direct for a good clean 12v, but I'm not sure if I have the relay wired correctly. When I turn the light switch on the lights sometimes fail to ignite. The parts are all factory - nothing aftermarket. Should I also incorporate a diode or something else?
The current relay setup is as follows:
85 - ground
86 - 12v
87 - 12v
87a - not used
30 - headlight ballast
Please, if any one can help me out I would very much appreciate it.

looks correct.

85 - ground from headlight wire (switched)

86 - constant 12v
87 - high current 12v fused @ 15 amps
30 - to positive wire on ballast.

it might be a bad relay. a relay rarely goes bad, but it does happen. to allw longevity on the relay, place a diode across 85 and 86. cathode (band) on 86

thanks for checking things for me tedmond. I double check things and seems like a faulty ground. As for the diode, would a 3A diode be
sufficient? Here the link that I was thinking of.....

wow 3 amps is way more than enough. i only use 1 amp diodes on my relays and door locks for isolation 1N4004.

btw if you are paying more than 15 cents for the diode, your gettin jipped. its only like 5 - 10 cents.
