I am planning to install a remote starter in my 2003 Sunfire. The installation manual said 'Do not disconnect the battery on vehicles equipped with air bags and anti-theft radios'. I would think the opposite is true.
Can anyone prove/disprove the statement? How can I be sure not to trigger the air bags? What area/wires should I be avoiding?

Those anti-theft radios usually have a CODE, which you gonna need if you disconnect the battery.
Avoid YELLOW connectors and wires in YELLOW looming... those are usually for airbags.

Thanks Jussi. How about air bags? Isn't it safer to disconnect the battery while installing the remote starter?

It is safer... but you'll need "power" to check the wires. Avoid yellow connectors, they are usually for airbags and other safetydevices!

I have never disconnected a battery for a remote start install. If its your first time you make sure you have a battery charger around, cause if your doors open and the dome light is on it'll drain your battery if your not to quick at it. Like in the previous post, just stay clear of yellow connectors and wires and you should be fine, also don't use a test light, you a DMM. Good luck!

I don't know... but all the cars what i've installed has yellow color in those "DONT TOUCH ME"-connectors.

YES!!!!! Yellow wires in all cars mean trouble if you ut them probe them or disconnect them, Best Buy has paid out over 45,000 in the last 1 1/2 yrs. due to this problem. Best advice on the board so far!
