I have a 2010 Chevy Express 3500 . I want to add a relay that is controlled by the ignition switch. I have gone through most of the mini-fuses and have found none that are actually controlled by the switch. What can I do that is simple?

Although the body fuse box for the 2009 is apparently not the same as it is on my 2010, i think that you are making reference to my tapping one of the J-case fuses.
I am not certain that I know how tap in.

The GM upfitter website shows the fuse box for both years as pretty much identical. If there is a J-case fuse port open that tests as ignition, crimp a female tab terminal on a fuseholder lead and insert into port.
