I am using an overdrive trans in an older vehicle. I need to be able to turn on an overdrive solenoid using the ac signal from a vss. The solenoid only requires about 1 amp of current. I would like it to switch at about 5.5v ac, which is about 40 mph. Can anyone help?

Trans has a speed sensor in it already. Builds 5.5v ac at 40 mph. That is the point where I'd like it to go to overdrive.

Set your meter to DC voltage and give me readings at 20, 30 and 40MPH.

I am thinking a simple comparator circuit may be what you are looking for.

Contact "bowtieoverdrives.com" and tell them what you want. Pretty sure they already have this, even though it's for a GM 700r4.

No sense in reinventing the wheel.

Could simply bridge rectify & filter the AC and use a comparator, but I'd consider using a voltage to frequency converter like the LM2907 or LM2917 (overspeed switch) as that removes the analog voltage issue.
