Id like to install an Alpine unit in a garage run by a 12volt power supply.
Can an small external battery (9v) be wired to save the memory and pre-sets when the power supply and unit are turned off? How would it be wired?
Any suggestions appreciated.

9v for short term yes for days it won't last long. Get a Cheap small 12v battery like a UB1250 and use the power supply to charge the battery and run the radio, then when the supply is off you have the capacity to go long term and no relays to wire. Use 1 diode between the supply (+) and the battery (+) and hook radio power lead to power supply and memory wire to battery. When you shut off the supply the radio will turn off and the memory will be fed by the battery.
