Alright I'm trying to make my Valentine 1 Radar detector control a small relay.  For those of you not familiar with the V1's they have power out, which can be used with accessories.  The power out on the v1 when it's sensed something ranges between 3.8volts and 6.4 volts.    I bought a relay from  Radio Shack that has the following properties.

Nominal voltace 5vdc

Maximum 6.5vdc

Nominal current: 89.3ma

Pick Up voltage 3.5vdc

Drop Out voltage .25vdc

Coil Resistance: 56 Ohms 10%  Etc. etc..

Ok unfortunatly, when I connect the radar detectors to the coil, there must be too much resistance across the coil such that either the detector won't even start up... it will cause it to switch modes, etc...    Were can I find something that is able to operate off such a small voltage amount that it won't cause the detector to recognize the resistance through the relay?  Thanks,

Adam

your takin the power output of your detector straight to the coil in the relay, then grounding teh other side, then placing a hot 12 volt wire on the switch, which outputs to what ever when the detector sends the charge, right?
