My daughter's '99 vw beetle cannot be started because the remote will not unlock the doors. Fortunately the windows are down (and it is in the garage). I have tried reprogramming using the owner's manual directions. This does not work. What can be done? We cannot drive it to the dealer.

Is this a factory remote or an aftermarket remote?
