Hi, I am new here and not sure where to put this message so here it goes.

I would like to add speakers in the rear doors has anyone else done this. They would be JL Audio XR series 6.5" components maybe even a pair in each of the rear doors if there is enough room.  I would really like to use the 6.5" XR components 3 ways, and upgrade the fronts also.

Anygood ideas about doing this?

Thanks
Brian

All speakers in this vehicle are 6x8". It is a very easy job to make some mounting templates out of ABS or resined MDF and mount oversize 6.5" component speakers. There is probably no need for 3 way component speakers, especially in the rear. Keep the rear speakers either to a matched set with the front or a matched by brand coax speaker. The front speakers are the most important by far. There is no factory tweeter mount in most of these vehicles, thus the tweeter usually goes right down in the door panel with the mid. The front speaker can either be a component or pointsource speaker if this is what you plan on doing. Look at the MB Quart RCE216 or PCE216 speakers for this. While they are true component speakers, the tweeter can also be mounted dead center of the woofer with the supplied mounting adaptor.

If you want to get creative (as I did in my F350 CC) the small black sail panel (the panel that covers the bolts that hold the mirror on) is a great place to mount a tweeter into. I chose this spot to mold my tweeter mount into this panel with time, bondo and a whole crapload of sanding, followed by some texture paint and sprayed black again. End result, same panel, same stock look but a great spot for the tweeter.

I am already running JL Audio XR 5x7 in all four stock locations, with a 300/4 amp.  I would like to move the rear speakers to the rear doors and thought it would be easiest to do this with 6.5" coax's I just want to know if the magnets would clear the rear door glass mostly.

What about using the three ways up front?

Also do you have any pics of your speaker setups?
