Seems as if I had to go after market to buy a 200 Amp alternator for a 2004 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with a 4.3 L V-6 engine, General Motors does not make a drop in alternator other then a stock 100 amp unit.
I am now wondering if the 8 gauge positive wire from the alternator output to the starter should be changed to a 4 gauge wire?
The DC voltage at output is 14.4 volts.
the wire to the starter to the alternator is 5.5 Ft. long.
The negative wire from the engine block to the frame is also 8 gauge wire that is 2.5 Ft. long.
Is it necessary at a short length of wire to do a change at all?

You need to size your wire for 200 amps even though you may rarely if ever pull that much. That's a 2 awg. Ground should be the same. Here is a chart if you need more info.

Let me add to my response. I didn't realize you said starter wire in your question. That wire should be fine, but make sure your wire to your amps, stereo, or whatever you have added to create that large of a current draw can handle it's own current draw.
