have started installing a audiovox aa-rs5 remote starter in my wifes 2000 gmc jimmy and am having trouble figuring out the way to bypass the factory security and i believe it has vats system but there is no chip in key. module has a light blue wire says ign 3 out 300ma max current.also has a yellow/black which says to controlling alarmsign input.my question is if both need to be hooked up and how and where?without them there is no response when i push transmitter button(engine does not crank)can do programing steps and calibrated tach input but still unsure on the blue and yellow/black wires.any help would be appreciated

You wouls use IGN 3 for a Transponder bypass module to bypass the Passlock II system on this vehicle ( kind of like the VATS, but uses an RF to transmit the code instead of a resistor chip on the shaft of the key. ) Without bypassing the Passlock properly, you will not RS the vehicle.

I just got the same thing so maybe i can help. every thing works on mine except for it starting . idon't want to connect the tach wire to the ignition coil i would rather connect it to the imput on the ecm . how did you do it? now for your problem , i don't  think you need either wire for it to start as long as you don't have vats.so i would find that out first. how did you go about connecting the wires from the 6-pin connector and finding the correct places for them? i dont have vats and the only wire on the 12-pin i need is the BLACK/ white.when you press the button on the remote twice do you here any thing in the reciever?

You have to bypass the passlock.  The resistor is in the ignition switch now.  You do not have a Transponder.  Gm uses the hall effect, much better then the Vats.  Get a Passlock 2 bypass and use the lt blue wire to activate the passlock bypass during remote start.

do i need the passlock 2 kit or can i wire a relay and resistor similar to the vats setup?do i need to use the disarm wire(yellow/black)?thanks for all the replys

I recommend buying something like a dei 555L  it is easier to hook up and more reliable than relays and resistors and less can go wrong hooking it up.  But you can use those if you are on a budget.  I can post more if you can't find instructions on how to do it.

Use a learning module so that with the temperature variations and the changing resistor values of the Passlock wires, you will always be able to remote start the vehicle. Otherwise if you use the relay system and install your own resistors, the values will change according to temperature and you could have a 50/50 chance of starting the vehicle witht he remtoe starter.
