I have purchased a vehicle from a small used car dealer.  The vehicle has a "command Start" remote starter.

The dealer stated that the remote may or may not work.  They gave me a couple of key chain remotes and said I could have one or the other programed to work at an electronics shop.

One of the remotes works some times and then it doesn't.

Is the programming something I can do myself or must it be done at a shop?

go to a 12volt shop that does remote startersto check the unit or do this  the transmitter that works part ime take it apart and you will probably see under the board a gold coloured thing that is called a pizo. it more than likely has separated from the plastic container and is shorting on the transmitter board use some black tape to isolate the pizo from the board and reassemble making sure the tongs that hold the battery are tight.

this is the most common problem withe the cs transmitters.

Also with cs transmitters the batter lots of times moves out of place and doesn't always make good contact.  The buttons wear out too.  Does the remote beep when it doesn't work?

You can program another transmitter in by doing this:

Open hood, lights should come on and go off.
Press hood switch and release.  Lights should come on.
While lights are on press the switch again and release.
Lights should now stay on, press button 1 and lights should go off.
Close hood and your done.

If you have the remote with the two large buttons on there do thi:

  • open hood
  • press hood pin switch and lights will turn on
  • while lights are on momentarily press the pins switch again
  • the lights will stay on solid now for at least 4 seconds
  • press button # 1 on the remote until the lights turn off
  • the remote is now programmed.
