Does anyone know what color the Cruise Control wires are on a 2000 Grand Am and where they can be best accessed? I am having trouble with the cruise and I want to bypass the switch to see if that is the problem.

Well, it doesn't work. The lights will light up (as in to turn the cruise on), but when you try to set a speed, it will not work. So, I wanted to try to see if the switch is the problem. I have already tried another module, that is not the problem.

I will look it up and get back to you.  Grey, grey/black, blue, and I can't remember the fourth color.  This might be wrong as this is just off the top of my head.

Here it goes.  The system is pretty simple.  If you want email me at player69dss@hotmail.com with your fax # and I can send you the schematic for it.

At the stepper motor under the hood (module that pulls on throttle) these are the colors and how to test them.

Grey - On - When the cruise is in on position and key is on should be +12v
Dk Blue - set - When you push set button this should flash +12v
Gry/Blk - resume - when you hold resume this should be +12v
ppl - Brake - when you push the brake this should be +12v
Black - Ground -
Brown - Ignition - when key is on this should be 12v
lt blue/blk - dash light - when cruise is set this should be +12v (not necessary for cruise to function.
GREEN / WHITE - vss - check for ac current

If all these test good, take the Dark green wire, cut it and hook the stepper motor side to ground.  This is a cruise disable wire.  If the PCM detects any reason that the cruise should be disabled, it will not supply ground to this wire and the cruise will not engage.  I have seen the pcm malfuntion and cause the cruise not to work.  The solution was to tie this to ground or replace pcm.  The customer chose the cheap route and we just bypassed this.  To date no problems with it.

I still think it sounds like a bad stepper motor so if it was a used one you tried, see if you can get your hands on a new one.  It is very common for the gears to strip inside. Unfortunatly the stepper motors are quite expensive to replace.

Let me know if you have any troubles, I have quite a bit of experience with cruise controls.

I didn't try a different stepper motor, just the cruise module on the passenger side of the engine compartment. I will give that a try and see if that helps.

Thanks!

There is no seperate cruise module.  It is built into the stepper motor.  Did the piece you change hook up to the throttle?
