I'll be installing 8" woofers in my rear deck this weekend in a 2000 Grand Am. What type of Fiberglass do you recommend?

I've seen guys use thicker matte, which seems cleaner and needs fewer layers. I have only used the shredded kind, which is very messy.

There is a thicker cloth-type that I'm looking for, but I don't know the name or where to find it locally (I live in Chicago, not the burbs).

Any help would be appreciated.

I have no clue what to tell you as far as obtaining supplies in Chicago.

There are numerous places to get fiberglass supplies online.

Refer to this link for supply resources:

About which fiberglass to use, it is up to you. A thicker / heavier mat is not as flexible as something smaller, so if your design is pretty straightforward then, sure, go for a slightly heavier material.

If you want just a outright recommendation, I say go with this...

3/4 oz. Mat: 38" Wide

You do not have to get it from that particular website, but I like their layout and using them as a price reference.

Thanks. I'll be doing my entire rear deck, cutting rings for 8's (or maybe 10s), and another layer of fiberglass. Any other tips?

I'll post picks.

Can't remember if they're there or not but just make sure that the enclosure clears the torsion rods that hold up the trunk lid. If your looking at removing them or if they are not there then disregard this post.

Yes, absolutely on the torsion bars, I agree. For whatever reason they put a harness type thing for the 6x9's that will help me gain the additional space I might need. Check it out, this is from my 6x9 install that will be removed.
