Does anyone know how to duplicate the vinyl, imitation leather texture of a dash board.

I am molding in a box for a monitor and would like to match the texture. ( not pebble )

Thanks ahead of time.

Non-pebble hey.... humm, sounds like u'll have to actually get some vinyl and vinyl the box.

I may be wrong though but if not you can find a good selection of vinyl laminates at partsexpress.com

yeah they do, but the only one I've ever seen was duplicolor and it doesn't exactly dupli-cate (lol, made a funny) the vinyl, its just a dye that has to set into the vinyl its not actually vinyl.

Yeah, that's just vinyl dye. SEMs makes a wide variety of them. Basically it's a can of spray paint for vinyl/plastic. It doesn't add any texture.

they make a texture spray, SEM does im pretty sure, call ur local shop. Its a spray that creates that texture of the stock plastic pieces on your dash.

Try 3M rocker panel spray.  You can sand it with 400 grit 'til you get the depth you need to match.

Both of those products will give a pebble texture, not the vinyl/leather texture he's looking for.

This is a update, I'm gonna try ( practice, experiment ) something called crackle paint, its suppose to give a rough texture that gives the impression of leather that can be sanded down ( per the arts and craft store ). I will post the results.

I'd try that on a scrap piece first. I know what you're talking about and I don't think that's going to work for you. Prove me wrong and let us know how it goes.

whats up guys,

i had to figure this out the hard way but i'm glad that i did. i was cutting holes for components (i dont remember what car) and stupid me i didn't measure first. half the hole was covered when i closed the door. i hade to fiberglass the hole shut and re texture it this in the basic process.sand the area smoothe and lay down a thin primer coat.next lay down your first color layer.you must let this dry completely.now  to texture a put down another color coat and pressed down on it with a crumpled napkin (the cheap brown industrial ones) you cam change the tightness of the crumple to match the vehicles texture and add more or less paint to change the depth of the texture.
