I want to make an overhead console in my truck that will house my CB, switches, and my map lights.  The thing is, is that my headliner is vinyl strectched over the metal roof with insulation in between.  There is no "cardboard frame" or anything.  So in order to make sure the top of the console flows with the ceiling I want to lay some glass, but how do I do it upside down?  Or is there something else I can do?   Just to reiterate, taking down the headliner is not an option since it will not retain it's installed shape.

you can do it upside down, but it will be *slightly* difficult. I'll bet one of the easiest ways to achieve what you want is to make a cardboard mock-up first. use a hot glue gun to put it together.. once you have it the way you want it, tranfer your design onto some thin wood. you probably will have to cut away the vinyl where the console will meet the the roof and secure it to the metal frame with machine screws. it think you should make the consol in such a way that you can remove the bottom (that way you can acces the wires and screws, ect). and as  far as "blending" the piece into the rest of the headliner, that would be hard for me, cuz i've run out of ideas. but you can wrap the piece in vinyl before you mount it, the use piping around it. (you know the stuff they use on seats and stuff).... i hope that helps you or at least give you some ideas... good luck and make sure you post pics!!
