I'm putting an Eclipse SW9122 12" Titanium sub powered by a Xtant 1001 in my SRT-4. The sub will be mounted in reverse (firing into the box, magnet out) and was wondering how thick I should go. The top and sides are FG while the rest is 3/4" MDF. It's about 0.9 cubic foot.
I have the box built and was about to start sanding but would like to reasure myself it will be strong enough.
I currently have 1 layer of fleece and 5 layers of 1.5oz matt. Can't measure the actual thickness anywares but estimate 1/4" maybe a 1/16" shy of that. Used 1 and 3/4 gallons of resin.
Think this is enough that I won't have to worry about the bondo and paint cracking?

That sounds like the bare minimum to me. I usually go 7-10 layers. One way to tell is put pressure on it with just your thumb. If it don't flex under your thumb it won't flex from the speaker.

Thats a bad ass sub, so i would definately put at least 8 layers of glass.  Im up to 10 layers on my box for 1 brahma, i may actually go 2 more since we are playing with 1000 +watts here.

Thats like WAY overkill but you won't ever have to worry about say....a bullet penetrating your box.

Well I kind of attempted to build the box b4 I really knew what I needed. Fiberglass isnt my thing. But it shouldnt resonate and If i ever need a ramp for my car I'll have an extra.

Hey, having a speaker box that can hold 2 tons just might come in handy.
