I'm in the process of building a fiberglass box with the sub being flushmounted using a set of speaker rings. My question is how do I carpet an irregularly shaped box without getting a bunch of seams, my main concern is the area where the 2 speaker rings are, and how do I carpet that inner edge of the ring, since it will be exposed since I won't be using a grill over the sub. A picture tutorial or something of that nature would be great, or any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What type of carpet you going to use?

you can use a non backed material it will allow you to stretch out the seems and contour and cover all areas that will be seen . this carpet is durable and can be used for many different jobs.
you can find many colors of this carpet at www.selectproducts.com the two options are trunk liner and autofab premium

I'm going to use the nonbacked automotive carpet from partsexpress, and the front of the box is made from a single sheet of MDF so its flat, but I'm not sure how to do the area around the recessed mounting hole for the sub. Its going to be flushmounted, so I'm figuring I need to cut slits all around the circle so that I can carpet into the recessed part, but I was hoping someone could give me a better idea of how to do this

It depends how deep the recess is. Sometimes with this type of carpet, you can get away with a bit if you are close to an invisible surface, i.e. you can force down a wrinkle near the egde of a box, which will make LOTS of wrinkles on the other side, but if this is hidden from view, no prob.
