You will need to diode isolate the door pins (depending on car) and run each set of LEDs directly off the corresponding door pin.  With more diodes you can install a "master" switch that will turn them all on.

I am only guessing here, but since you came to the12volt.com to ask your question,  I can only assume that you will need a little help with the diode isolating thing.  We can help you with that but we need to know the make and model of your chevy.

You will need to get to the back of each pin switch in each door jamb.  On the front doors, you should be able to see the back side of the switch if you remove the kick panel.  There should be a white wire on each of the pinswitches.  Well at least the wire was white 20 years ago.  You will have to investigate and tell me what you see.  If the wire is white continue on with these instructions.  You will need to cut that wire several inches from the connector on the switch.  First you will need to go to RadioShack and purchase 4 diodes.  276-1653 is the part number for a 25 pack of suitable diodes.  With the wire cut you now have 2 ends.  The end that is still attached to the pinswitch needs to be connected to the banded end of the diode.  Connect the other end of the diode to the available wire.   You will need to connect the wire that grounds your LED to the same point that the diode is connected to the pinswitch wire.  Power the LEDs via a 1 amp fuse and you are set.  A picture will follow shortly.

here is the best interpretation that I can give you, this picture is for if you have a negative door trigger. If you have postive door triggers, then all you need to do reverse the polarity of everything. make sure that the stripes on the diodes are going away from the door pin.posted_image

would this be just as simple for a 98 regular cab chev pick up?

this is just an example that I came up with in my head, just from knowing neons and how door pins work. this could work with any vehicle. A 98 chevy truck should be easier just because you can tap into the courtesy light below the dash instead of having to go to each individual door pin. Pro to that is that it is much easier, but a con is that they will turn on with both doors and not individually.

For under seats and dash I used 12 volt cold cathode lights from the computer supply place, they stay cool and put out alot of light, come in lots of colors and are very inexpensive, they are also light in weight and you can just zip tie them to anything

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on a negative door trigger aren't the diodes in this picture backwards? And to isolate each light to each door shouldn't the negative off the neon be connected to the trigger side of the diode?

What i always found easy is to take out the door switches if there was any and do all my connection there by the hole,in case you run into problems.

the only interesting answers are the one that destroys the question.
