Back Story: My friend bought a truck and wanted to put new gauges in it. He called me and I put them in. There was a proverbial bowl of spaghetti spilled in the floorboard. Whoever owned the truck previously either 1) had no idea what they were doing, or 2) thought what they did was loving hilarious. So, I removed EVERY wire in the truck and replaced it with those from the kit, a 21 circuit kit.

The Problems, with additional info:
1) When I turn on the headlights (position 2), the parking lights go out. I am using a new replacement for the original headlight switch. Power, head, park and rear are labeled and hooked up correctly. The brakes still function in both positions.

2) Neither turn signal or the hazards blink. Lights are LED and I replaced the mechanical flashers with electronic counterparts. Flashers are two-prong, situated at an offset right angle.

All connections are secure and shrink-wrapped. All grounds are clean.

I can't help but think I am overlooking something simple.

most gm cars before 66 or 67 had the front parking lights go out when the headlights were on. maybe thats the parking light issue?

hi,
check the headlight switch, there are two possible positions for the parking lamp lead. one works as you described, the other stays on with the headlamps. gm used purple for the front running lights, that go out in headlamp position, and brown for tail lights. probably just have to remove and replace the terminal.

do the signals and flashers

A.come on and not blink or

B. not come on at all....

if A., replace the led bulbs with regular bulbs and see if the systems work.  if they work with reg bulbs, the leds arent pulling enought amperage to trigger the flasher.

if B., make sure there is power to the flasher's power terminal. if no, make sure its fuse is good and test for voltage at the fuse.

if all thats ok, use a DVM and test the other terminal and see what the ohmage is to ground.

report any results and we will go from there.

Been a while, I know. Switched one LED for standard and, viola!, it works. My question now becomes: How do I build more resistance into the circuit?
