I put two strips of LED's under my truck for rock crawling/repairs. I want them to illuminate when I open my doors AND from a switch. I bought a 5 pole relay and used the switch as one trigger and puddle light wire as the second. Puddle lights didn't have enough voltage to trigger the relay, added a PAC TR7 to amplify the voltage. Now I need something to go into the LED's positive wire to prevent the voltage from going BACKWARD into the puddle lamp circuit.

Problem is when I turn the lights on VIA the switch the voltage goes into the puddle lamp circuit and turns them on as well.

Thanks.

I tried an IN4005, had it leftover from a repair on my Harley, and it got way too hot.

Could you recommend a different size?

Also tried Radio Shack 276-1661 MCC * 50V / 6A Rectifier Diodes * 6A05 MR750. But it got real hot too, I know nothing about these things, I browsed the web until I found a similar post and tried what they used.
