It has been a long time since I asked for help but now is the time, looks like. My wife's 2005 Grand Am has a "base" radio, factory stock. A couple days ago, she noted that the radio/clock was no longer illuminated. I have spent hours on the WWW looking for advice and have not fared too well. This radio seems to be rare even though it was standard issue. Anyway, I did find a YouTube instruction on removing the entire unit but never did get a "hit" on replacing the lamp for the backlit display (if it is indeed replaceable). Any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated!

You need to remove the radio and then remove the faceplate assembly, You can then get to the bulb for the display. You will need to source the same style bulb though.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I will do as you say and see if I can determine part number for lamp(s). If any problems, I will post again.

Just in...! I removed the radio and disassembled. The board did indeed have six orange sleeved incandescent lamps on it but these apparently not my problem. The display itself is in some sort of "can" and I feared trying to pry off its metal cover. It does appear though, that there are two leads coming out of the bottom of it that could very well be an incandescent lamp. Could anyone direct me from here. There must be many tens of thousands of these radios out there....possibly hundreds of thousands! The vehicle, once again, is a 2005 Pontiac Grand AM SE. The radio is listed at the "base" unit for that model year.

Can you take a picture of the back of the can and post it somewhere and put a link here? The 2 leads are probably the lamp.

Hope you can see the photo...I remain dazed and confused that I cannot find anything on the WWW. Here again, there must be tons of these things our there. Perhaps people are content to simply leave the unit in a broken state!!

I am pretty sure there are 2 light bulbs behind that display. Remove the metal case and look for them.
