Hey all,

I have a 94 cuts supreme, oldsmobile.  I've got a pretty nice system in it, just about to put some subs in as well.  I wanted to know if wiring in a underbody neon kit would be a lot of work... I'm pretty handy with hooking up things in my car, I did all my system work as well as installed my own remote start and car alarm, but I was wondering the amount of workload and type of things involved with installing one of these things.  As well, I don't know if my alternator could handle the lights and the system at the same time, I'd rather not upgrade it either, as the alternator itself is fairly brand new...  Anybody know of a amperage draw/current demand on a 4pc neon underbody kit, or can give me a rough idea?  thanks.

If you did all the work in the audio / security area yourself. You will find this very straight forward.

The only tip(s) I can give you, is to ensure that the mounting service is high enough to protect the units from road impact.

ie. Snow / Rocks

Even if the units state that they are indeed sealed units. Ensure that you silicone seal any area's that enter / exit the unit(s)

I have seen many hours of hard work come and go after only one afternoons rain shower.

What ever you do, ensure that the fuse which supplies the power is indeed in place, and correct in value.

Lastly, select the correct color which will not attrack the boys in blue, which could result in a fix it ticket or a impound...

Technically speaking,

here in the states, the underbody lights are not a ticketable offense as long as the lights themselves are not visible.  The glow from them is fine, but the neon tubes cannot show, and you can use whatever color you desire.  It's not illegal to have them on while you're driving either.

Red and Blue are the primary colors for the NYPD. I would really like to see anyone actually try to use those colors on the street while driving. LOL

I lived in the Bronx and Queens for 10 years, so anyone who says its OK to use is either clueless, or otherwise has never lived in the 4 burrows.

actually, neons are not illegal (any color) in the USA, the only law that can be applied against them is if the lights themselves are visible it could be considered a "glare hazard" (actuall wording used in DOT laws), if they are not directly visible then you cannot be ticketed for having them installed on your vehicle.

State of State of Lighting Survey Conducted by SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) on 3/1/1995

There have been many questions regarding the legality of (neon) products. Please be advised that many states have issued Summonses, under the statute of improper lighting, optional lighting, unapproved lighting, or improper use of lighting. However, these statutes are primarily focused on original vehicle lightning which must abide by certain rules and regulations set by AAMVA (American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators) such as, ONLY red, white or amber are allowed on a vehicle and these lights must be no brighter than a specific brightness allowed by law, and the lights must be affixed at certain heights. Under these terms, if NEON is installed beneath your vehicle emitted just a glow and the bulb is not visible from front, rear or sides, regardless of color, IT IS 100% LEGAL!

You have every right to have neon lighting because there is no law, in ANY state that prohibits neon lighting.

For more information, check your local state code regarding Automotive Lighting, lamps and read it carefully.

know your local laws, because its allowed by national law in the USA--and if you are not doing anything illegal then you can't be ticketed--but watch out, because there are a lot of p***k cops out there who will pull you over and harrase you just because you have neon, or a nicely painted car, and will find any reason to ticket you
