What parts would i need to use these https://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=070-008 with a 12 volt source. Im looking to use approx. 20-40 leds to complete this. Or is there a different led to use.

You will need a a few resistors, two or three capacitors to smooth out the peaks and troughs of the electrical signal, a PCB board, solder.

For the resistors, you need to know the current draw of each led and the internal resistance. With this you can figure out what Ohm resistor(s) you need and wheather or not they need to be in series and/or parallel.

Oh, and you're going to need a transformer to convert the 12 volt to the proper voltage for those LEDs.

I suggest that you just look around on partsexpress a little more and you should be able to find 12volt LEDs. This would remove the need for a transformer

you need to limit the current to the LED to 20mA.. how you do this is determined by how you plan to wire the LEDs.. what's you plan?

You should check out 123leds.com better prices as well as brighter LEDS.I got some from them rated at 5000mcd at 20ma.Super fast shipping/decent shipping costs and for a blue 5mm LED are only like 40 cents each. They also have 3mm and 8mm. They also have the resistors :)
