Hello Guys I'm new here, some members from Plowsite.com sent me your way. I am installing a whelen csp690 power supply for 6 strobe heads on my plow truck. The directions from whelen suck. I have wired a fused lead from the battery to the power supply plug, the red wire. The black wire is grounded to a screw in the cab. (I should note that the power supply is in the cab under the rear seat.) The purple wire is not wired to anything. The next plug is for the switch leg or so I'm told. I tied the blue and green wires to a 15 amp feed from a switch leg. Nothing happened when I powered it up. I did have power on the power feed to the plug and the switch leg. What am I doing wrong? Anyone ever wire up a whelen powewr supply before? I need some help with this wiring. Thanks Mike Kelley

Check to see if either the blue or green wire from the switch leg show voltage. If so it may be intended for you to connect the blue to one side of a switch and the green to the other to turn your lights on and off.

hrm left over wires means you didnt do something right... Leme get this strait out of the transformer (power supply) there are 3 wires one red, one black, and one purple. If thats the case and the purple is smaller then the red and black. The transformer has a built in relay. wich means your red wire goes to Constant power, black wire goes to ground, and the purple wire goes to your switch. Connect your switch to any constant power sorce. When you flip your switch it will send 12v to the purple wire signaling the transformer to turn on. Now if I am completley off base with this.. Tell me what wires come out of the transformer. Number of wires, Color, wire guage.

This is what I found out after talking to wheelen tech support. There are three wires on the plug, one black, one red, one purple. The red is power to the switch, black is ground and the purple wire when you put 12 volts to it , it will change the pattern of the strobes. I have it all wired up and working now. Thanks Mike

Mike, Unless you have a different model than the CSP690 that you listed, the violet wire is Hi/Lo, not a pattern wire. The wire colors are as follows: Red - 12 Volts+ Black- 12 Volt - Violet- Hi/Lo Blue- Heads 1&2 Green- Heads 3,4,5, & 6 Yellow- Pattern Selection Let me know if you have any other Questions, -John Cummings Safety Lighting and Equipment https://www.safetylightingandequipment.com sales@safetylightingandequipment.com

John, What kind of prices can I get on a Power head ( for lack of the correct term if thats wrong). I have used the cheaper after market ones before but I would like the more powerfull ones now. Sneakycyber2@yahoo.com
