posted_image While looking for a replacement LED for a Clifford car alarm I came accross a Clifford replacment 2 volt LED. The description states only 2 volt (Clifford) LEDs can be used with Clifford alarms (where a max of 2 leds can be wired together, i think it read .. in a series)...  If this is true then what methods are normally used to wire non-Clifford LEDs into Clifford alarms. e.g. a 12 volt LED or if the LED specificaions are unknown ?

Alarm LED's are almost always 2 Volt. The best way to tell is to check the LED for a resistor at the base of the LED. If it has a resistor, it is meant for 12 Volt applications. I know that CodeAlarm and DEI security units will plug directly into your brain depending on the year it was made. The worst case is splicing positive and negative to the new LED.

I am unfamiliar with car alarms and uncertain about how their LEDs are powered.

A newly connected LED failed, my thought was the voltage to be incorrect. Perhaps as you said the pos+ was temporarily grounded, however it's behavior began to stop working after which it restarted to work again and now it seemed to have become completely dead ...
