The salon in my boat currently uses 4, 12v flouresent lights. They do not put out suffient light and the bulbs constantly fail. I'm going to change them and I'm looking for ideas. At the moment, I'm considering a fixture that uses a 20W, MR16 bulb. It would require 8 of them to do the job. I would like to add a dimmer switch as well. Ideas and suggestions welcomed. Also need a source and part number for a dimmer. It needs to be quite small ideally. Thanks.
Have you looked into LED technology? You can get some really nice 10 MM super bright and run em in arrays. They would demand verry little in the way of power and can be dimmed as well. You can get em super bright or low and in a variety of dispersment angles. Narrow beam or wide angle.

Thanks, sounds like a good idea. Do you know of a source where I can look at them? Thanks
Take a look at blueseasystems.com They offer a very cool digital 12v dimmer that is sold at westmarine.com.
A good Idea might be to do a search in this forum under LEDs and read as much as you can about them. You willunderstand quite quickly the benefits and cons to them. Either way they are really cool if you ask me, and if you gain more knowledge can't hurt either. The main thin is making sure you run em at the right current or add a resistor to them to equal the current draw. Again you'll understand alot more with this search.
I did one for ya but ya get the idea.
