I am looking to add 2 LED lights that will flood the center console area of my 2000 Mustang GT with a dim but noticable light. If anyone is familer with BMW's or the Newer VW's you will probably know what I am talking about.

1. How can I control the amount of light which comes out of these LED's (can I use a dimmer?)
2. Do I have to use any special LED's

Also once I hook them up as my Ambient Interior lighting. is there a way for me to also let them act as Blinking lights as part of my alarm? Or is this going to pose as too much of a hassel?

If anyone is unsure of what I am looking to do. Here is a picture of the overhead console that is in a VW passat or what ever.

The 2 little dots are the the lights im refering to.

Thanks in advance

You can use an adjustable resistor (potentometer) to adjust the amount of light.  You will need to find some LEDs that have a wide viewing angle, so the light will spread out.  LEDs are known for their direct light applications, not their ambiant.  The typical viewing angle of an LED is ~10 degrees, but you can find them up to 35 degrees and beyond, if you are willing to search and pay the price.

If you want to use them with your alarm it would be possible, and shouldn't be too hard to implement.
