I have a eagle talon with a water injection kit, basically i just want a LED to come on when the water solenoid is energized, simple enough, bought a set of 12v led's from walmart, white led with resistor, tapped it into the solenoid + side, grounded the other, worked great for a few times, then the led seamed to have burnt out. Any ideas why?

with your car running, its tech 14.4 volts.. might want to add another resistor in series before the led to drop the voltage

Try a reverse biased diode across the solenoid terminals.

The solenoid acts much like a relay, and the coil in it may be generating a higher voltage when de-energized and the magnetic field collapses. You should be able to find some tech info on this in the relay section on this

or you could use the trigger wire for the solenoid to throw a relay.  test the leds before you put it all together, your inline resistor could be too low resistance.

did you ground the led to the ground on your solenoid? try a separate ground.

let me know how it goes im curious.
