which way to face subs in enclosure

Most of the time you have to play around with them and see what sounds best to you.I have 2 12's in my mustang in a 5cf vented box tuned to 32hz and to me they sound best faced forward with the seats folded down.  This could be due to the fact that having them faced the other direction the back of the box is larger than the opening and may have been muffling the sound.

But if its a hatchbacks the subs faced toward the rear of the car seems to be the best IMO.

Generally, the subs will sound better if faced rearwards, unless the output from the enclosure is sealed off from the trunk and forced forwards. It has in part to do with cancelation of sound waves within the vehicle. It also helps to use the rear of the trunk to load subs. There are many factors that play into into this. The easiest thing to do is trial and error. If your box isn't permanently mounted, just try it out in different spots. x2 on this. If your subs are in completly in the trunk, then having them faced rearwards is probably going to be your best bet; unless like you said you can fold the seats all the way down so your car is more or less like a station wagon. If you can make them fire into the cabin, but seal the rear of the subs into the trunk, that would work also.

I've found that the bass is louder with the subs faced rearwards, and better with them faced forwards. This is with the back seat up and down in my 2dr.
