Hello,
I am looking to upgrade my battery. I've read several topics on these forums about what kinds of batteries to use. I've also noticed that Optima batteries seem to be pretty popular. However, I don't know of any place that sells those batteries locally. My question is, would a duralast RED / gold top be as good of an upgrade as an optima or is there a huge difference between different brands?

Not sure if you have Autozones or something like that near you but they carry them also I have heard good things about the new Diehard Platinum batterys. But If I needed to buy a new Battery I would either get a red top optima or a kinetik hc1800.

Yea pretty much every Autozone, NAPA, Pep Boys, etc., all carry Optima batteries. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere - possible in Texas I guess - I couldn't imagine you'd have a hard time finding them. Thanks for the info. I'm in the process of adding a second amp to my car and I'm not sure how the electrical system is going to respond. I was hoping that I could upgrade the big three and maybe the battery and not have to deal with getting a H.O. alternator.

What two amps are you using? Link to the product pages. A Deep Cycle and the Big 3 take care of any electrical issues I've ever had - definately your first place to start. HO alts are a REAL PAIN - they make low voltage at idle and, IMO, really contribute more to the problem than they alleviate. And anyway, a parallel pair of high quality deep cycles - or a single deep cycle - will cost you the same or less. I am going to be running a MTX 404 and a MTX 6500D:

MTX 6500D
Right now I am running the MTX 404 and a MTX 421D on the factory electrical system and I haven't noticed any problems. However, I'm worried that when I upgrade the 421D to the 6500D issues might arise.

This is a fairly minimal upgrade. I don't anticipate you'll have any issues. If so - you have a minimal upgrade on ur hands - the most cursory of battery upgrades will work fine for ya. ------------- "I'm finished!" - Daniel Plainview

I appreciate the help. I just ordered some wire so I can upgrade the big three. I'll probably also get a yellow top optima just to give me peace of mind. Has anyone ever bought any batteries off this site? https://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/Seems likes there's pretty good deals to be had.
