im a complete and total noob when it comes to car audiom, or audio in general, but i would like to put a system in my car, this is what i've compiled for the build, keep in my mind, i have no idea how to match subs and amps/speakers and receivers. i've searched the forums, and read a lot of topics, but a lot of this stuff just goes straight over my head. same with the ohm's law page.

2 ALPINE TYPE R SWR-1222D 12"

ALPINE CDA-9883 IN-DASH CAR STEREO CD/MP3/HD PLAYER

KENWOOD KAC-9103 CLASS D AMP

PAIR OF ALPINE SPR-17C 6.5" / 6.75"

i drive a 2001 honda civic LX (the 4 door sedan). like i said, i have no idea if this system is amazing-or complete doodie. any response is appreciated. keep in mind my budget is relatively cheap ($800 or less)

not sure but if those subs are Dual 2ohm voice coils u will be able to wire them 1ohm stereo or 4 ohm stereo if ur amp is a 2 channel... or if it is a mono block u will be able to wire it with a 2ohm load or a .5ohm load...

is ur amp 2ohm stable ?

whats the rms rating on the subs ? match the amp up to the rating of the subs :)

u will want ur amp to be putting out the rms of both subs combined at 2ohms... and u will be set

ex. if they are 750 rms u will want ur amp to be 1500x1 at 2ohms

they RMS at 500 watts. so i need to find an amp that has a 1000 x 1 @ 2 ohms?

does hifonics make decent amps? found an amp that would match the subs. and does the wattage on the amp have to be an exact match to the RMS of the subs? or will a more powerful amp blow my subs?

There is no need to power the sub to its maximum RMS rating. It is just a continuous power handling rating.

You do not need to go and buy a huge amp when the difference will be less than 3db.

That amp will do just fine for those subs. Wire the subs in series/parallel for a 2 ohm load to that amp.

Build a nice ported enclosure for those subs and you'll be hitting hard for sure.

I used to have a couple Type R 12s off 480 watts total between them and it hit HARD. It's all about the enclosure design.

No need to spend extra money on a big amp you don't need

i was just kinda planning on buying a box, becuase i dont have any idea on how to make the port/dimensions. is there anything i should look for when buying a ported box?

Unless the box is atleast 4 cu ft and tuned low around 30-33Hz with atleast 50 square inches of port than I would have a shop or a carpenter build a custom one.

Type R's work better in larger ported enclosures...if you are going to buy a prefab than buy a sealed box...the subs will sound like crap though.
