Can anyone please tell me if I need to keep my factory deck installed in my 2004 jetta in order for the chimes to work or other accessories? Something like some of the GM cars like the cavilier

No, you do not. There is no switched accessory at the radio however, and there is a module available for that if you do not wish to go hunting for an accessory wire (there is a BROWN / red at the key that works marvelously)
