It is too hard to tell with the information provided. The 1.8 cubic foot volume is fine but there is no mention of the tuning frequency. For all you know it could be tuned to 50Hz. You should see if you can find out what the tuning frequency is first.

That is very cheap for an enclosure. I would not expect the wood to be of very high quality and it to be built well. Maybe I'm wrong but that is what I think when I see that price.

hmmm. well do you know of anywhere i could purchase online a pre fab box that might work well with a type r? i will call up sonic electronics to see what it is tuned at. what should it be tuned at if im listening to just about only rap?

That means whoever you spoke to does not know what they are talking about.  That enclosure claims it is 1.8 cuft internal volume, which means after you add a speaker it's about 1.4 net, which is OK for a type R 12" subwoofer.  The proper tuning frequency for a 12" type R is about 36Hz, so ask Sonic what the internal dimensions of the port slot might be and we can help you figure out if it'll work.

Obviously you're trying to save a few duckies, but your best bet would be to visit your local specialists instead of trying to pick out something from a catalog. You will likely spend a little more up front, but you'll be much happier with your purchase, learn more, and save money in the long run. Here are a few dealers in your area.

Personally, I think 38Hz with that large of a volume is not going to be the sound I would be looking for. It is going to be louder but not very focused on sound quality at all.

If you are looking for something loud then that would work but if you want better sound quality then look for something with a tuning frequency around 30-34Hz. I doubt you would find this for a prefab enclosure though.

I would recommend that you either find someone to make it for you locally, like the12volt recommended, or make one yourself. I know someone that makes enclosures that can probably get you the dimensions for an enclosure if you were interested. If you have some tools to cut and assemble the wood with you could make your own easily and fairly cheap.

I was wondering because I have seen this a few times, is calling that enclosure a "transmission line slot port" correct or totally wrong. I have seen it numerous times so I was wondering what the deal was. I have a TL in my car so I know it is totally different then a slot port but I wasn't sure if their terminology was correct or not.

A slot-port is generally a vented, bass reflex enclosure.  A transmission line is a special type of vented system.  Using the two terms together is proper if that is how the system is designed, but beware that only a very few slot-ported enclosures are actually transmission lines so it could be marketing hype.

I humbly suggest you wait until you can afford to have the proper enclosure constructed for your woofer.

Yes, 36Hz to 40Hz would work for loudness. I would not look at anything over 40Hz though.
