I feel silly ofr even having to ask this. I am installing a new aftermarket head unit into a 2003 Toyota Tundra. The truck is base model, crank windows maual locks. The only option is has is cruise and a cd/tape deck. I have both harnesses that Metra makes for the 03 Tundra, neither fit. Once is close, one isnt anywhere near close. The stock setup seems to have an amp behind and a little lower in the dash. The harness that is close to fitting is the one for the amp, but again it does not fit.

Does anyone have any insight as to what is going on?

Thanks,

Travis

usually if a toyota has a factory amp it will be the plug at the amp that fits. as in, take the plug from the factory amp, not from behind the radio. it should be just a basic 2 plug harness on the output side of the amp and that will fit one of your radio install harnesses.

Thanks for the info. Any tips on getting the dash panel apart to get to the bottom of that amp? I cant get my hands down there.

, i dont really know, ive never had to tear one down that far. can you see the mounting screws? i think they are 10mm. you could try to get at them with an extended socket and then just pull the whole amp out.
this might also help you metraonline.com

Thanks for the instructions but thats jsut for the main head unit. the amp is further in and much lower. Its held on with philips screws but they are close to another piece of plastic I cant get a screw driver to it. I haven't looked super close yet, but once I do I should be able to figure it out. I was just hoping someone had some tips or tricks.

Thanks again,

Travis

yeah, i took a shot with that link. are you talking about the trim around the main radio trim, or farther down by the floor? if its down by the floor and there is no center console it shouldn't be that hard. maybe just some screws and clips.

No no, i have the main trim around the radio off, thats how i know where the amp is and how the radio comes out. There is a piece of trim that is around the black radio trim, but separate from the one that goes to the floor (no console). I'm sure its clips and screws, I just have to find where they  are all hidden.
