Subject: tweeter location for ’09 mustang

I have a 2009 Mustang GT Convertible with the Shaker 500 stereo system. I am trying to buy a 3-way component system from Focal.

I was planning on placing a 6.5" midbass where the 8" woofer now sits. And then installing a 6.5" midrange where the 5x7 is placed.

Where would be my best option to install the tweeter? Any advice is more than welcome. Thanks!

Do yourself a favor... look AND listen (if you can) to the Morel elate 9, 3 way...

if you cannot, at least consider the 6, 3 way... you can mount the tweet with the cdm88 mid in the 5x7 location.

Dave seconds the Morels. Never been a fan of Focals... Like Sony, Bose, and Mercedes, you're paying for the name!

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I third and finalize the Elate setup. I would also sound dampen the doors and the rest of that car. Also, make sure that you use Class A/B amplifier with a deck with atleast 4 volt preouts. These speakers are too good to allow a mediocre amp and low preout deck to reproduce the sound..... what a waste.

I have an 09' Mustang GT with a Morel Elate 9 3-way setup pouring out nothing but sonic nirvana.

I highly recommend the Elate 9 over the Elate 6. 05 GT's and up already have the 8 inch cutouts in both doors, Might as well make the absolute best use of the availabe realestate and the much deeper, harder hitting midbass of the Elate 9" woofer over the Elate 6.5" woofer.

I would also recommend that you keep the tweeter close to the midrange. A custom pod in the factory 5x7 door location would do the Morel Elate 9 - 4" midrange and the accompanying tweeter much justice.

With a well set up Morel Elate 9 3way setup up front, fed by a good quality amplifier, say 150 watts rms per channel, one wouldn't need any rear fill speakers.posted_image

And I chime in with a recommendation on the Morel 9" 3way set as well, so much so that I am working on a install with a set of them right now.

Forbidden, what type of head unit and amp have you considered for the Morel Elate 9 3way?

Nice set up with the Elate9's. Wish I could have done the 9's with my truck, but I could only get the Elate6 3 ways the fit properly. Talk about a long break in time though

Velocity, what head unit and amplifier combination were you feeding your Morel Elate 6 3way setup in your truck? This is my first stereo install and I'm hoping I chose decent electronics to compliment the Morel Elate 9's.

For a head unit, I decided to install Eclipse's new AVN 726E  unit (5v preout) , amplified by a JL Audio Slash 300/2 V2. I decided to go with an All JL Audio setup out back since they make a killer stealthbox for 05-09 Mustangs, cradling a robust 13.5 W6 V2 Sub, tucked neatly against my rear right wheel well, which  gave me the room I needed to  install a 10lb NOS bottle with all the trimmings.

She's still under construction, I'll post more pics when the install is complete.

I'm still waiting on a Clarion NZ509 DBL DIN unit to get here from Clarion. I have the ARC Audio SE4100 and ARC Audio 2150 ( subs ) along with a Phoenix Gold ( Old school here )  30 band 1/3 Octave graphic EQ.

I will be using the Eclipse AVN726E for the source as well. I have a original Soundstream Tarantula in my store, one of 3 in Canada and the customer wants it. Amplification is going to be MTX TA7804 for the rear and hatch area speakers and MTX TA7802 for the fronts. We might even sneak in a MTX TA81001D if he wants more power. Subs will be either 3 or 4 Morel Ultimo 12". Rear speakers are Hybid Ovation II 6.75" component set and tail area speakers are going to be Morel 6.75" pointsource speakers. This is going to be one sweet machine. Extra power compliments of Vortech...... muwahaha.... Jeff might be taking another trip yet again.....
