hey guys i know this might sound dumb...but i got a sub for free from a friend and its only about 150w rms. i know its not going to sound like my old type r's (wish i still had em) but i would like a little bass to my current set-up. the sub is a pyramid wx-120-x i know its not aq show sub so i was thinking a 6th or 8th order bandpass. but i was wondering if these would work for what i am trying to do. (decent bass. little power) i like the idea of just seeing a port and no sub looks clean. i tried some bandpass calculators but the numbers dident add up right for me. so if i could get some help that would be great. any comments welcome

The problem you are going to have is that 6th and 8th order enclosures are VERY specific on the design. So if you mess up the construction or design a little bit it can lead to major performance issues.
The other problem that you are going to have is that in order to design a good 6th or 8th order enclosure you will need accurate T/S parameters. I was not able to find any specs for this sub let alone the factory specs. So any T/S parameters you get are going to be inaccurate. Unless you were to measure the T/S parameters yourself you would not really be able to accurately design a 6th or 8th order enclosure.
I wouldn't really recommend this design anyways. Yes, they can be very efficient in the right circumstances but they are not ideal by far. They are typically only used for competitions. This is because they are only going to be good for a narrow range of frequencies and ineffective in the rest of the frequencies. So you will have very good output for a small range but no output for other frequencies. So basically you would not want to use this for a daily driver with regular music.

i found these specs. im not sure if they will help anything...(about third page down)
Jus look up "down firing sub box" in google images. All it is is a ported box with the woofer pointed down at the floor. its got legs to keep the sub up off the floor a couple inches.

My suggestion would be to build and try different type enclosures......See what works and sounds best for you......
Serious suggestion: you will be hard pressed to make that woofer sound like anything decent no matter what you do, so just go to your local car audio store and buy any typical prefab enclosure that the woofer will mount into. You'll end up with not much worse performance than a carefully designed custom enclosure and you'll save a few bucks that you can put towards getting a better woofer later.

Support the12volt.comI agree with DYohn that I wouldn't put too much money into the enclosure as the sub isn't going to be great no matter what enclosure you are using.
Saying that, I would use a sealed enclosure that is about 0.8 cubic foot before sub displacement. That seems to be ideal for the sub from what I can tell. It will not be great at maximizing your loudness but I can't really make a ported design with the specs listed. Also, it seems as though the sub is going to perform better in a sealed enclosure no matter what with those specs.
The good news is that most prefab sealed enclosures are made for this same volume so you could find an enclosure easily. Otherwise you could build this enclosure yourself.
