HI
Hoping someone can help, Just got a new navi deck, is it possible to install in my 2008 BMW 335i? It has the 9 speaker Logic 7 system. I have brought it to 2 shops and have been told different things, it has optical wires so that you can not upgrade the deck, or I can not take out the deck because its related to the diagnostics I can relocate it? I tried searching everywhere and no info anywhere has anyone done it, is it possible,

I don't believe it's optical. Most shops will tell you this because they know little on the subject on the car and usually don't want to mess with it. It has a kit/ant adapter for the vehicle but a harness doesn't exist. But I need to know if it is navigation? 2/4 door / converitble? You can usually use a 70-9003 Harness and just run ACC to the ignition harness because it is a digital turn on for the factory radio. Steering Wheel Controls will be lost though, because they are 5V, and currently there is no adapter for this on the market yet. If it was personally, I would do it, but I wouldn't be doing it for cheap. So don't expect any deals. Expecially because parts are expensive to replace on that vehicle. If no one will do it up in Canada there for you, think about stopping in Nebraska and visiting me.

Hi Ymike, thanks a lot for the reply. The car is a 2008 335i convertible, no navigation. It is supposed to have an 11 spkr system, there is a tweeter and woofer in each door, tweeter and woofer in each side of the rear, 1 center speaker, and supposed to be 2 subs under each front seat. The guys at BMW say its suppose to be the logic 7 system, but from my research the logic 7 is supposed to be a 13 spkr system? PAC is supposed to work with the PAC-PS and the PAC can module. Can anyone confirm if it is optical or not?

Last BMW I worked on in that year was not optical, and I don't believe I've ever seen one that has been, only Mercs.
As for Integration of diagnostics, unless you have oil life/ check engine codes displayed on the radio, don't worry about it. Unless your Nav radio is a double din. Then you have to relocate that elsewhere to still receive code info.
As for your speakers, Metra says the coupe is a 13 speaker system, but since you have a convertible, I bet it is only 11 due to the lack of space. It doesn't make a ton of difference though since there is no harness that integrates with CAN network yet, it is hardwire w/ 9003 harness.
As for the SWC, you are correct. I guess they recently came out with the SWI-CAN2 module. Last time I checked it was not available, so now I can call back all my BMW fans and tell them the good news.
Your parts are as follows.
Harness- 70-9003
Ant-Adapter- 40-EU10
Kit- 99-9304 or 95-9306B if it is a D-Din radio.
SWI- PS (If you are doing a compatabile radio for SWC input)
SWI-CAN2

Relocating the OEM radio to the trunk to retain CHIMES w/ an aftermarket headunit This is for people with aftermarket headunits only.Here's what you need:Metra 70-9003
(Plugs into your Dash Harness)
Metra 71-9003
(Plugs into your OEM Radio)
Instructions: You need to run five wires from the dash to the trunk. Three of the wires are to connect pins 9, 11 and 15 on 71-9003 to pins 9, 11 and 15 on 70-9003. The two remaining wires are for a small speaker (8 Ohm) so you can hear the chimes. This speaker gets mounted in the OEM location under the driver's side dash. Pin 12 on 71-9003 gets grounded in the trunk. This is very important. DO NOT assume that all the pinouts are correct on the Metra 70-9003 and Metra 71-9003 wiring harnesses. You MUST verify that all the pins are in the correct places. Depending on where you got the harness, you have have to move some around. Use this diagram:

whats your take on this Ymike?
(would like to retain oem chimes, not sure if any other MID functions are interrelated with the oem hu) Also the car has the OEM back up sensor system,any idea is this retained through the OEM radio, or is it a seperate module alltogether? And are you saying it is really as easy a metra harness and antenna adapter???
I really hope so. :)

You can move your radio to the trunk by following the above instructions. However I would not use the harness ground and run it to the back. I would make one as close as possible to where you are going to put the radio back there. Important items are 12v, ground, can high, can low.
As for the harness and ant adapter, yes it will work, but you have to run ACC power to the deck.
Back up sensor is a separate module, but the can wires will take care of the audio portion. I will actually be doing an 09 135i this sunday, so I will let you know for sure. They are pretty much the same platform as the 3 series.

Okay so after my super fun day with the 135i here are the results. If you have the professional series radio and it is logic 7 THIS IS FIBEROPTIC! I was very surprised to find this but there is a way to integrate it.
We decided the best option for his 10 speaker system layout was to run a 6 channel amp to power all the speakers in the car efficiently and safely. 1 channel to each speaker/tweeter combo and then the two sub channels to each sub under each seat. The amp was not in the place listed on my car so I literally tore the majority of the car apart to find it. It ended up being in the driver side sail panel between the interior sheet metal and the outside sheet metal. I just ran my wires through the factory grommet and left the amp there though. For the ACC I grabbed it at the cigarette lighter, since it was a 12ga wire. Still trying to figure out the SWC though, they made me really think till I ran out of time.
So getting back to your vehicle. I would do the same, only don't hook up the center channel, it's pretty worthless. This is a pricey way, but effective for people that REALLY want aftermarket and be able to be trouble free. So I would have them pull the head unit out first and see if it is fiber optic and go from there. Everything else is the same I told you though.

Got the SWC to work on the 135i and it sounds amazing with the 4 channel and 2 channel setup I decided to go with. How is the 335 going and what did you decide to do?

The car is here now.
What is this sail panel, i have not heard the term before.
It is fiber optic (as i suspected!) :(
Trying to find the amp now. The customer is going to use the 4 channels from the deck and use a sub amp to power the sub, should be ok for him he doesn't want to spend as much.
