I recently had my kicker l7d4 blow, the best way to describe what happened was the rubber surround came out from the edge of the basket.  My question is what is better a 2 ohm dvc L710" or a 4ohm dvc L7 10"?   The amp I have is a JL audio 500/1 V2.  I listen to about everything from country to rap, and I don't need and or want alot of bass.  The box is a kicker specific ported box(square port).

Neither is better than the other. The reason there is a difference is to best match the impedance of a single or multiple drivers to the minimum impedance capabilities of the amp. I think you were using the best match possible. The sub isnt blown if the surround comes apart. In the olden days, we'd drive our subs until there wasnt any surround at all, and beyond. Nowadays sealed boxes and higher quality material make it a lot more rare that you'd see such a thing. Is this sub inverted, pressing against something, in the direct sun or refurbished? Or did "someone" happen to have the drill slip of the screw and poke a hole through the surround? Be honest!

It was in a truck before and it would press against the floor, and now its in the trunk of my G8.  The thing is you can here the surround fludder when the certain bass hits.
