speakers, subs, amps, head units?

Hey, guys. I'm new here over on 12 Volt, so pardon my lack of knowledge on car audio. I have a few questions on speakers, subs, amps, and head units.

Is Alpine a half decent brand? Should I go with MTX instead?

Does anyone use the Alpine SPX-17REF?

Do I need low pass filters for tweeters?

I have two satellite speakers from a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 wired for component. I plan to use them in my truck, but they're 5 OHMs. Can I use them on a 4 OHM amp?

I want a less noticeable amp, and I do not want to install it under the passenger seat. Could I install the amp in the glove box?

Component VS Coaxial?

I have tested my Sony Xplod 1100w on my friends power supply, and it worked great. It hits hard, but do I need a high pass filter for it?

Yes, its recommend if the tweeters didn't come with crossovers.

Yes as long as its properly mounted and its well ventilated.

You want to use this amp for the 5ohm speakers? or for some subwoofer? Check the amp itself, some have a HPF or High Pass Filter built in.

Tweeters require high-pass filters.  What tweeters are you considering?

I have a very nice pair of Klipsch ProMedia tweeters. About 3" tweeters. Do crossovers have a giant butt coil in them? If so, I've got the tweeter crossover. Do I need a new alternator for the amp? It's a Sony Class D ZZR Mono Amp. I want to use the amp for my sub. I've kinda narrowed it to sub only. I'm set on component.

Now, these aren't car tweeters. These are EXTREMELY nice Klipsch speakers. Power supply for them was fried, so I set it up to where I can use them as component tweeters. I already have the polyfill set in there so I don't get any distortion. These are what I want, so please don't say they're junk (not the mod.) If you have a suggestion on tweeters, that'd be great. The tweeters are 5 ohms. Would I be able to use them on the amp? The amp is 4 ohms I think. The sub is 4 ohms and it is an older Sony Xplod 1100w. Really nice, too.

But the main thing I'm concerned about is my alternator. I dont want to screw it all to crap, seeing as I need all the munny I can spare. The truck has a bad oil pump and needs to be towed. there goes most of my stereo fund...

wait a minute. the amp is a monoblock amp?
Then no, sorry you cannot use it for the tweeters sorry.
It'll be great for some subwoofers, but not for tweeters. That amplifier is designed for woofers.

If you still want to use it for subs, the amp draw is 60 amps. So some details on the car would be nice that way we can determine weather the car is ready for it.

Try using the tweeters directly from the headunit.

It is a 2000 Nissan Frontier with a 3.3L V6. VG33E engine I believe. Crew Cab. The wiring diagram on here says it has rear speakers... where?

Any way, I'll probably just use the pre-amp from the head unit and amplify the sub. I have looked everywhere for alternator info, but can't find it.

Either way, I just wanna get my info set straight since the truck will be sitting for about another year. Bad oil pump and clogged pickup line means it needs to be towed to the shop.

Sorry to hear that, but once its in the shop you may ask your mechanic to see the alternator.There is usually a sticker of some sort on the alternator case itself. It'll have the rating printed on it.

As for the speakers, some trucks do not have rear speakers. only on the truck models they are right behind the seats.

Hm. Well, right near the seat belt mount on the floor, there is a hole on each side that kinda look like vents. Not sure, though. Another question, how do I get the manual window handles off??

If you can't visually see the rear speakers try playing a song and FADING the stereo to the rear to help you locate the speakers.

The manual door handle will have a horeshoe looking clip that holds the handle.

there are some special tools to remove them. But if you have a small hook you can pull it off. JUST BE CAREFULL AND DON'T LOSE IT!

The Alpine spx-17ref are great I have this set for my fronts, the important thing is the crossovers are flexable, they have 2 inputs per crossover to give you the option to bi-amp or using the headunits outputs for the tweeter inputs on the crossover, also gives you 3 options for tweeter level, 0/-3/-6db, you will like these.
