Im installing a power inverter, and i was wondering if i could just tap into the (+) and

(-) of the cigarette lighter?

Yes an No,  it depends on the inverter voltage and amperage. 

In example, if your cigarette fuse is (under dash) is rated at 5 or 10 amps, your inverter depending how strong it is may draw anywhere from 2 to 30 amps or even more.   However if you are using a small inverter that is fused under the amperage that your car lighter is on it will be fine. 

Just check your paperwork on the inverter and it will tell you maximum current draw. Compare to your fused cigarette lighter.
