were is the best place to put the high amperage fuse in your power wire to your amp. I thought it should be Has close to the amp as possible Is this correct. and I have a fused distribution block should that go right after the big fuse or should I just be using the fused distribution block. Any help would be much appreciated.

The first fuse MUST be no more than 18 inches from the system's primary power battery. After that, put the D-block close to the amps so you can keep the smaller gauge power wire as short as possible. Seriously, the 18 inch rule is NON-NEGOTIABLE for any competant install or sales consultant.
If you'll let me know the amperage ratings of your amps, any accessories you might be running, the wire gauges you're using and I might be able to help you economize your wire use and keep everything flowing the right way.

You must always fuse the main power cable within 18 inches of the battery. As far as your fused distro goes you can put that where ever you need a distribution block.  Also remember when you run your grounds to the amp that they must be no longer than 18 inches from your grounding point.

Cool thanks for the info. I had a system installed professionaly and they installed the big fuse right by the amp. I guess that wasn't right. If you don't mind my asking would is the logic behind that I thought if you had a short or something like that it would be better to have the fuse right by the amp.

The 18" rule is to protect your cars electrical system.

You had a system professionally installed and they put the power fuse right next to the amp? I'd like to know the name of the shop and give them a good talking. If (God forbid) something should happen to your electrical system, your amp fuse will blow right away, saving your amps, wires and subs. Although your amp does have a fuse on it, that doesn't mean that a power spike can't get to the vital circuitry before the fuse blows.
