Hi there, first post so sorry if it's in the wrong section

I have installed the following and am curious about the best way to wire it all up.

4 sets of Kicker KS 5.2 components with crossovers. (front and rear channel)

2 individually boxed Kicker Solo Classic subs internally configured for 2 ohm final impedance.

1 zx700 5 channel amp.
1 zx500.1 mono amp.

I think I want the component sets to run at 4 ohms so wiring those should be straightforward unless you think running them in a 2 ohm config. would be better. If so please tell me how! The 5th channel will be run in mono 2 ohm to one of the subs.

The other amp will be run in mono 2 ohms to the other sub.

Do I just buy a couple Y splitters to split the Sub output coming off the head unit and then connect to both low inputs on both amps or is there some time of output "pass through" (probably not the correct way to say that) that I can hook up between amps?

I have a 2 farad capacitor... should I install that? (I've heard they can be potentially harmful to the charging system/battery)

I don't see a 2 ohm "switch" on these amps. Do they just automatically sense when the speakers are wired up that way? Will I have issues running the 5 channel amp with 4 channels at 4 ohms and the sub channel at 2 ohms?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for the help!!!

James

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to buy a 4 ohm solo classic in the kicker box and re-wire it to 2 ohm final impedance?

Lots of views but no answers yet.. is anyone out there?

First off, not everybody that will view your post will be interested in answering it... Sometimes it can take a day or two before a knowledgeable member trips across it... :P

Secondly...

If the components are 4-ohm, that's all you can do as far as wiring them... 4-ohms. You can't make a choice. You COULD in this case, but you would be wasting two channels of your amplifier, and you would have no fader capability, AND you would gain ABSOLUTELY no increase in output... In fact, you would likely be a dB or two DOWN. Connect them in 4-channel mode, keep the excellent flexibility of a 4-channel system, enjoy the lower distortion and better efficiency of the 4-channel system, and don't worry about it beyond that.

Re: the cap. It's not "harmful" in any way to your electrical, BUT it is also, in no way, shape, or form USEFUL in a stock electrical system. Put it in, or don't, but it's not going to "fix" what you were probably told you needed it for. :)

If it's a DVC woofer, possibly.

And then you ask:

If you already know that it's a 2-ohm load, then why are you asking if a system can be re-wired internally? If it's not a DVC woofer, rated at 4-ohms per voice coil, then no. SVC woofers are only a single impedance. DVC woofers can be wired to your choice of three impedances...

Hi and thanks for posting. Both subs are DVC kicker solo classics in seperate boxes. One was pre wired from kikcer for 2 ohms and the other one is wired for 4 ohms. The 4 ohm sub will be here today and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to rewire it for 2 ohms. I see now that my best bet will be to remove the sub from the box when it gets here to see how the coils are wired up and attempt to rewire it for 2 ohms. I found several diagrams that outline how the wiring should look.

Thanks for the advice on running the components in stereo/4ohms. They sound amazing and I do enjoy being able to play around with the staging.

Thanks again!
