Hi all,

What would the best enclosure be for dual 10" Type R's?

Ported or sealed?

I understand that Ported gives you great low bass and Sealed has great tight kicking bass. Is this correct.

I listen to music like Skrillex and Metallica, But also RnB, Rap when the girlfriend is riding with me(Cant handle heavy anything/screaming haha).

This is in my 2009 Ford Falcon XR6 4 door sedan, Lots of internal volume/large vehicle.

What do YOU want to do? For your tastes, a vented enclosure, tuned to about 35 to 40Hz will probably do you just fine...

Me...? I don't like vented enclosures, especially tuned that high. I sacrifice space for extension any day, and tune for drastically lower than that, or just go sealed, which is a completely different response curve.

Everybody you ask will likely give you a different opinion. :P

I have limited space and I like tight bass so I suppose My choice had already been made for me eh? Will start getting it built this weekend hopefully.

So after weeks of checking everything out I went ahead and followed Alpines Recommendation of .6Cu ft Sealed for a Alpine SWR-1043D. I have two of these, both in .6Cu ft enclosures and they lack definition, I have since spoken to an Alpine certified installer and he recommends a 1.0Cu Ft enclosure for each sub.   So back to the drawing board it was.

Mounting Depth: 149mm (5.875")
Mounting Diameter - Front Mount: 231mm (9.1")
Displacement - Front Mount: 0.080 Cu ft
Added Volume - Reverse Mount (magnet out): 0.055 Cu ft
Recommended Enclosure Alignments: Sealed, Vented, Bandpass
Sealed Box Volume Range (Gross): 0.5-1.0 Cu ft
Optimum Sealed Box:

    External Box Dimensions 12.5" x 12.5" x 10"
    Gross Internal Volume: 0.60 Cu ft
    Net Internal Volume: 0.50 Cu ft
    Cu F, Qtc: 46Hz, 0.90

I have come up with this, As close to 1.0Cu as I could get with the sub volume taken out(2.1733Cu Ft /2 - 0.08Cu displacement = 1.00665Cu ft/sub)

Sorry for the drawing, it's my first so let me know if something needs amending. :-S

I would like to use 3/4" MDF as I can get as much as I need for free :-)

I cannot exceed 11" High and 31" Long due to the boot space :-( however I understand there will not be enough room so I would be happy to allow the enclosure to hang over the spare tire well if needed.

I listen to a lot of rap, hip hop, and electronic/techno music (Skrillex) bit of the good old rock here and there. Really want to feel the music in my chest :-D
