Subject: new speakers, new amp, sounds horrible.
Date Posted: March 04, 2012 at 1:11 AM

I have just recently purchased 6.5 inch polk audio 6501 component speakers for the front of my Subaru impreza WRX and polk audio 5.25 inch DB521 coaxial speakers for the back of my car powered by a 4 channel MRP-300 alpine amplifier. I also have a pioneer DEH-4300UB stereo deck. So i used the 9 wire speed cable and hooked it to the back of my harness and had the other end hooked to the amplifier, and i made sure all the crimps were snug and what not, but the sound it just horrible. I can hear the instrustments but can barely hear the voice of the singer. I dont know if its the polarity or whats going on. Someone please help! Thanks in advance!

it sounds like maybe you used the woofer outputs as inputs on your speaker crossover.

the radio dont have some silly karaoke mode does it?

If you start the engine, can you hear it through the speakers?

for my woofer all i did was run the wire that they gave me with the speakers to the cross over and the wire from the tweeter to the crossover and then ran speaker wire from the 9 speed wire to the crossover. And to tell you the truth i havent really tried to run the car while the speakers are playing but i dont know why that would make a difference.

well i ran the wire that came with the speakers from the woofer to the crossover and the tweeter wire from the tweeter to the crossover and then i ran speaker wire from the 9 speed wire to the crossover as well but it just sounds like crap. I honestly havent turned on the car at the same time as the speakers but i dont know why it would make a difference in the sound. thanks in advance!

have you played with the settings on the pioneer? maybe a different eq setting would sound better. check to make sure your crossover on the amp is set to HPF not LPF

Everything is set to how you said so I have no idea and it's really irritating me. Could it be the polarity?

I think I know the answer to the question, and I think I know the solution to your problem.  But I need only one thing from you.

so you bridged the alpine to run this pair of speakers or is there more to this system than what you are telling us?

which outputs run from the pio to the alp?

you did disconnect the speaker outputs on the back of the radio from the speakers right? the alpine amp should be the only thing connected to your speakers.

So i finally got my speakers to sound somewhat decent but now my tweeters on both sides (left front door, right front door) have a continuous fuzzing noise. Any ideas? If i turn the volume level down the fuzzing stay the same volume and doesnt go up if the volume is turned up. thanks in advance

please let me step up and speak for myself(and possibly others who have been trying to help you).

you keep complaining about things but not addressing the questions we have. dont expect a solution when we are TOTALLY left in the dark about what your system actually is.

your descriptions on what you have done are very vague and if we cant tell exactly what you are saying our answers are not gonna pack as much punch.

so if you dont answer our questions precisely,or if you question our questions, or tell us what has changed to make your improvements, we cant help much..

in order for people to help you you need to respond promptly. dont ASSUME you have covered every angle on this problem. remember, you are the guy who created your problemand we cant fix it without your help, we are not mind readers for instance when you say "speaker wire" do you mean the wire running from the speaker, to the speaker,  to the crossover, from the crossover (and to what) , from an amp, from a radio.appearantly you havent covered everything.

so please, give us clear answers.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Is it a popping, or whine?

Usually the Alpines come with an inline choke that should prevent most DC-power noise, but alternator whine might still get through. (More whine if alternator brushes are worn.)

But noise could still be through the speaker wiring, especially, in my guess, if OEM.

But audio isn't my forte. I'll let others interrogate and suggest.

Yeah I have a pioneer head unit and it is more of a whine when I accelerate

i dont have a link to the post about pioneer radios but the problem is common to pioneer radios. try grounding the outer shield of your RCAs, thats the outer part of the connector. the noise should go away or reduce significantly. if you want to fix it permanently then you need to find someone to repair the rca shield inside the radio of buy something that isnt a pioneer.

So you suggest i get a different head unit?

once a pioneer has noise issues then it will never go away. depending on what you do to fix it it might get better to the point where you can stand it or barely hear it but it will alway be there. if you can get it warrantied then i would do it but theres no garauntee that it wont do the same thing.

Thank you very much for that link. Are the yellow wires called amp fuzes? If so, where can I purchase these?

They are just basic In-Line Fuse holders.  Available at any auto parts store or at Radio Shack.  You do not need a large fuse holder, the smallest ones you can find will work fine.  You really need only one fuse holder.  It does not matter which RCA cable you connect it to, either the left or the right.

And this will take away the noise from the alternator coming through my speakers??

If you performed the test at the top of the page and determined that there is no electrical connection between the shield of the RCA and the chassis of the radio, then yes it will fix your problem.

Hello, I just recently installed some polk audio 6.5 inch component speakers in the front of my car and then hooked the speakers to a 4 channel alpine digital amplifier and the instruments sound up to par but the singers voice it much lower than the instruments so you can barely hear the singer. Any Suggestions? I also have a pioneer stereo. Thanks in advance.
