I have a 2012 mustang gt, and have a (new model) RE Audio XXX 12.D2, with a Sound Stream DTR 3400. (2200rms @ 1ohm). The alternator is getting sent to MechMan to get redone to 220amp version, and I am doing the Big 3.  I am going to keep the factory stereo as I like the microsoft sync and the stereo appearance.  I have a audio control DQX that is going in with this.  I removed the back seat and am doing a half wall type setup and was planning on aiming the sub straight up on one side and a slot port on the other.  I was wondering what info you guys could offer me as far as port dimensions. I plan on the top baffle being 2" thick and the sides 1.25". with those dimensions before port and mag displacement I have about 4.4 cu.ft.  Any opinions on sub/port placement??  By the way this is for daily use but if a show came alont I would like to enter it to see what it would do.

personally i would face the sub front and center and port on the front passenger side. to get the full benefit of having a sub like that i would suggest that you tune the port low, like close to 30Hz but not under. this will take away from overall loudness a little bit but it will sound better for most music especially hip hop/rap.

what will you be doing for the rest of your system? are you keeping the speakers and amp stock? any particular reason you will be using a soundstream tower amp? its a good amp but they are very strange to mount because of how they are shaped.

also, even though you are upgrading the alternator i would still recommend a better battery under the hood and an extra battery in the trunk. fords usually have a decent electrical system stock but im not sure about newer fords so it might still need a little help.

For now i am gonna keep the stock speakers but upgrade later. I got a good deal on the amp. I was gonna mount the amp then the processor centered in front of it. What about center sub in the front with slot port on either side.

Also i was thinking about just doing a battery under the hood do you think it would be necessary for another in the trunk.

Upgrade the Big 3 and think about an HO Alt before you start thinking about second batteries.

Those both are covered.

Then rock and roll.  The only reason you might want a second battery is if you plan to operate the system with the engine off.

Yeah thats what i figured. With me running at 2000-2200 rms i think the 220 amp alternator would be fine.

i would still recommend a better battery because the alternator wont give you its full output anywhere near idle, it will probably max out around 3000-4000 rpm but at idle the output will probably be closer to 80 amps.

Mechman emailed me that it produced 100 amps at 650rpm, 140 amps at 800, and full by 1800. But i was still looking into a battery to go under the hood

ok well then you have a good alternator. but that isnt usually the case with H.O. alternators, you just have to be careful.

Alright thanks for looking out. I am still gonna get a battery for under the hood. What would you recommend? A power master a xs d975 or a xs d 1200 will fit under the hood.
