Head unit's a Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS, camera isn't the Pioneer one. I'm not sure of a brand, I just know it's one of the ones that's built into a license plate holder. I didn't install my system it was a local shop, wasn't really thrilled with the job they did so I'm not trying to go back about this issue.

Any ways, the camera was working normal, but day I had to get a jump from a totally dead battery. And it hasn't worked since. the HU has almost nothing in the way of settings. I've tried setting the camera to both ground and battery. At the moment the camera is technically working, well it's on. But it either stays on even when I'm not in reverse, or it will go on and off sporadically. I don't have the rear view option on in the main menu screen. Right now it was on for the last 10 minutes I drove. If I press the menu button the camera stay on and nothing happens. If I press the eject button so I can remove my screen, it does nothing.

I would have assumed a hardware issue here but it worked flawlessly right up until the night my battery died. I looked over the menu and went thru every option on the HU. Doesn't seem to to me to be anything left to do, but maybe someone here has some clue for something I can try?

2nd question back up camera related. The install shop didn't want to use the stock Pioneer one because they said they'd have to drill thru fiberglass to mount it and that was risky. I didn't argue with them, but I'm not happy with the one they installed. It doesn't have the RED / YELLOW /GREEN lines and it looks more more fish eye distorted than many cameras I've seen. I have an '08 Saturn Sky, not exactly sure where the proper place to mount the camera would be. But would any installers here agree with what this shop told me? I understand it would be more work than the license plate one, but how doable would it be for a person like me to drill & mount the Pioneer one? I'm assuming it has the parking lines and won't look so bad.

Pioneer decks default to no back up camera. There is a setting to change polarity to positive. I will try to locate the setting when I get to work. I will post instructions then.

Thanks, in the settings menu under the camera the 3 options I'm seeing are off, battery and ground. If that's what you're talking about I've tried both. Right now my camera seems stuck on, I can use the volume, track skip buttons and input button but I can't get into the menus at all. And I can't turn the camera off. I tried driving around, and it's acting like the HU's stuck with the rear view mode on. Only difference is when that's turned on, you can press the physical menu button and get the icons to pop up.
