Hey all,

First post here. Basically I bought an old truck. I want to put a stereo in and a small sub. The problem is the wires are all 30+ years old. They are hard and brittle and I don't want to use any of them.

I need to wire everything from scratch. I'm talking about every speaker wire all the power, pretty much everything involved. Can anyone steer me to the right resource to help me figure this out. Advice is appreciated.

Thx

If you are running all new wires, what kind of information do you need?

I should have added that I do not have much of a working knowledge about the way car audio is wired meaning I don't really know where to start.

You will have to run wires from the radio to every speaker in the vehicle. Connect the white pair of the radio to the front left speaker. Connect the grey pair of the radio to the front right speaker. Connect the green pair to the left rear speaker. Connect the purple pair to the right rear speaker. I have never seen brittle wire in a vehicle from this era. I would try to find constant power, switched power in the factory wires. Ground the radio to the framework behind the radio or directly to the chassis of the vehicle. My guess is that the speaker wires are all intact and do not need to be rerun.

As for the amplifier, connect the power terminal of the amplifier to the battery, with a fuse holder no more than 18 inches from the battery. Ground the amplifier directly to the chassis of the vehicle with the wire as short as possible.
